Thatch Safe™ fire retardant (exterior or interior use) can be applied to bamboo, thatch and thatching, thatch roofs, Tiki huts, cypress, and koa. Flame Safe’s Thatch Safe™ flame retardant is quick and easy to apply. A water based clear fire retardant, Thatch Safe™ is odorless, colorless, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly. Very little material preparation is required before using Flame Safe's Thatch Safe™. Surfaces should be clean and dry. Thatch Safe™ should be applied in two (2) coats at 300 to 400 square feet per coat with the final coverage rate of 150 to 200 square feet per gallon. Thatch Safe can be applied by brush, roller or sprayer.
Thatching is a diversifed building technique that has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. There is a wide range of thatching materials available.
Thatch roofs do not catch fire any more frequently than other combustible roof materials, but thatch roofs are difficult to extinquish once the fire takes hold. The damage is more severe and thatch roofs are more expensive to replace.

APPLICATION
Treat before, during or after construction.
Be sure surface is clean and dry before treating.
Apply with 80 psi or greater sprayer at 8 to 12 inches from surface. Start at the top, hold sprayer at up angle to roof pitch to allow spry under thatching ends.
Apply with brush or roller.
May be necessary to wipe on hardwood surfaces
Treat all surface areas where possible
COVERAGE
Apply one (1) coat at 150 sq. ft. or two (2) coats at 400 sq. ft per gallon with the final coverage rate of 150 to 200 sq. ft. per gallon
EXTERIOR / INTERIOR
All surfaces to be treated must be clean and dry. Thatch Safe is water-based, clear liquid that becomes insoluble when dry. Thatch Safe acts as a preservative, and water proofing agent ultra violet inhibibor, mold and mildew protector and repels insects. If over coating is intended, Thatch Safe is an excellent surface primer for use under latex paints or can be use as a finished coat overwater based stains.
DO NOT DILUTE OR MIX FIRE POLY 100 WITH ANY OTHER PRODUCTS.
It should be noted that unlike some products, materials treated with Thatch Safe require no special cutting tools or special fasteners. Contact parts of any equipment should be stainless steel or plastic to prevent chemical reaction and breakdown. Storage may be done in polyethylene containers.
